Celtic Cup Tournament (September 2nd, 2019)

A brand new tournemant is coming up and it’s called the Celtic Cup Tournament.

Do you recognize the holes? No? Ok, that’s because these are all new holes and they are not in the game so far so everyone will have equal chances.

You will get the chance to practice them prior to the Qualification Rounds starting on August 29th in Tour 5, Tour 10 and Tour 12. I don’t know if they will become a fixed part of these tours in the future but for the time of the Celtic Cup Tournament, they will be.

Celtic Cup Tournament - Drunmore Links Hole 1Hole 1 – I recommend you to take the route to the right because you have an easier drive because there’s more fairway to play on plus you have a smaller gap when you bounce the ball over the water towards the green in your second hit.

So, you will bounce over the bunker and overpower a little bit and add a little bit os spin as well.

In your second shot you will bounce over the water and you probably will be a little bit in between clubs so rather go short with your iron and add 2-3 bars of front spin to bounce on the fairway and roll on the green. From here you only need to put the ball in the hole and you have a decent chance to birdie.

Celtic Cup Tournament - Drunmore Links Hole 2Hole 2 – This hole is played downhill so you have to play it right to not shoot over the green.

The best way os to aim on the right side of the fairway and add as much sidespin to the left as possible (3-4 bars are good) and about 1 topspin as you need to aim your second bounce to slightly bounce on the rough.

This will prevent the ball to come in too fast and getting the hole-in-one is luck here. Still, you can birdie easily if you land on the green like I described above.

Celtic Cup Tournament - Drunmore Links Hole 3Hole 3 – the best way to play this hole in The Celtic Cup Tournament is getting as much down the fairway as possible in the first shot and then approach the green directly in the second shot.

Be careful the fairway is downhill and you don’t want to end in the rought! The reason why you don’t want to play it to the right side is that there’s almost no way you can consistently approach the pin in the second shot so playing the way shown in the image left is indeed the best way.

In your second shot you will play uphill so wind isn’t that tough and you want to add all the left spin and 1 bar of front spin to get on the green and get your eagle.

Celtic Cup Tournament - Drunmore Links Hole 4Hole 4 – this hole is harder than it looks like and it can either bring you ahead in the tournament or cost you some points.

The best way to appraoch the pin directly is bouncing over the bunker and having an extra bounce on the fairway in front of the green (you can see the two spots in the image on the left side).

I recommend you to add 1 front spin to get enough speed to make it on the green and about 2-3 sidespin to the left to adjust the direction of the ball to approach the pin directly.

Celtic Cup Tournament - Drunmore Links Hole 5Hole 5 – I believe that playing on the right side is always the better option because the left side will force you to bounce the bunker right in front of the green and this is so risky because you can either come in short and land in the bunker or go too fast and run all over the green.

Playing on the left side is a lot more comfortable and you will bounce in front of the bunker there and gain as much distance as you can to get the best position for your second shot.

Your second shot will be 1 bar of topspin bouncing right before the rough and then a second time on the fairway directly on the green where you have a great chance for an eagle or a secure birdie.

Celtic Cup Tournament - Drunmore Links Hole 6Hole 6 – You really want to play this hole on the right side in this tournament because there’s no way you can approach the green directly in your second shot when playing the left side unless you do some crazy overpowering.

For the drive you want to aim right so you don’t get into the rough at the fairway section where the fairway gets really tight and add as much topspin as possible to gently roll the ball down the fairway.

In your second shot you will do a bounce on the rough with 3-4 sidespin to the left and 1 top spin to have enough power to reach the green after the rough bounce. From here you can easily go for the hole or maybe get it in directly when approaching the green in your second shot.

Celtic Cup Tournament - Drunmore Links Hole 7Hole 7 – this is my favorite hole in the whole tournament and it’s just a straight approach for the pin.

You will bounce once on the fairway island and then aim for the second bounce to be on the green.

The green is elevating so you don’t need to add and spin at all – maybe 1 bar of backspin if you have a strong tailwind and you don’t want to come in too hot.

Bottom line this hole is a great opportunity to get a hole-in-one if you adjust to the wind correctly to have a straight line approaching the pin.

Celtic Cup Tournament - Drunmore Links Hole 8Hole 8 – this hole has probably the best chances for you to get an eagle in the Celtic Cup Tournament and you always want to play it on the right side.

The reason is that you can still if you fall into the rough reach the green and have a much easier approach for the green in the second shot.

What you want to do is using all the topspin and some sidespin to the left to prevent the ball from rolling down into the rough in your drive and let it bounce over the first line of rough and try to get as far as possible.

In your second hit you can bounce it on the fairway patch around the green and add some backspin to aim directly for the pin and hopefully get your eagle that way 🙂

Celtic Cup Tournament - Drunmore Links Hole 9Hole 9 – the last hole in this tournament is all about distance and I recommend you to play it on the right side because the left side won’t let you approach the green in two shots.

So you will use some good curl to the right and make sure that the ball stops at the end of the fairway there.

From here you will bounce it over that rough strip with all the frontspin and maybe overpower to get as far on the fairway towards the green as possible. It does go uphill there so no worries you will come in too fast, it’s not going to happen 🙂 From here you can approach the pin directly and hopefully get your eagle.

Good luck in the Celtic Cup Tournament and maybe we see us there 😉

  1. Hello there,
What is meant by Silver State?
Is state is as in one of the US states “the silver country” or it’s meant to describe a condition “the silver condition”?
    Kindly advise!

  2. On the St. Patrick Tournament 2020.

    I think there’s a mistake on Drumore Links Hole #6 (Par 5)
    It should be 20% 1st shot and 20% 2nd shot (not 20/-10)
    Can you confirm?
    Thanks
