Dreaded Dunes Tournament (October 28th, 2019)
Fresh course? Beautiful setting? New tournament in Golf Clash? Check. Welcome to the next tournament, called the Dreaded Dunes Tournament starting on Monday, 28th of October and we will see some beautiful courses right in the desert of Egypt:
The holes will be available in Tour 5,8 and 11 to practice from Thursday on so you can get a feeling for them. But what’s better than jsut a feeling? Exactly, the text guides that we always craete that will give you the best route to play the different holes.
Dreaded Dunes – Hole #1 (Par 4)
In the first hole you want to pick the right lane and try to get as far to the end of the fairway and stay right at the same time. It’s not that difficult and the only risky spot is bouncing the bunker but you can also avoid bouncing over the bunker and use all the sidespin to the right.
For your second shot you then have an excellent chance for an eagle and depending how far you got you either will take the long iron with backspin or the short iron with front spin. Using the long iron with a lot of backspin, like the Thorn, is usually better and gives you more control than trying to get the frontspin right to adjust how fast you approach the pin.
Still, it’s quite an easy hole in the Dreaded Dunes Tournament 🙂
Dreaded Dunes – Hole #2 (Par 3)
Even though this hole is a Par 3 you can’t expect high chances for a hole-in-one on this hole in the Dreaded Dunes Tournament and the reason is that the spot will put you in between clubs when you try to play the right lane and this will make it hard to adjust to tailwind/sidewind setups.
You rather want to play the fairway island part on the left because this will give you a perfect spot with your long iron to adjust wind. Play it with max sidespin to the right (5+ bars) and about 0.5-1 bar of topspin and aim to the spot that your ball second bounce will be right on the fairway. This will give you the safest and best option for the birdie and maybe you’re lucky and can get the hole-in-one but it’s really hard to get.
Dreaded Dunes – Hole #3 (Par 5)
This is a perfect hole to get an eagle and even good chances for an albatross in the Dreaded Dunes Tournament. You want to play this hole here on the right side even though the drive on the left side is a lot easier but you will get a horrible tricky second shot with almost no chance to approach the pin there. So just go for the right side.
So, for your drive you want to add 2 bars of sidespin to the right and max topspin and securely play over the rough on the second fairway spot. From here you can play a double-bounce on the fairway or use a lot of backspin to approach the green and the pin directly in your second shot. Pretty easy actually so don’t make any risky hero shots and you will get your eagle 🙂
Dreaded Dunes – Hole #4 (Par 3)
This hole here now is a nice one to go for a hole-in-one because there are not many surprises – all you need is a club with a good amount of backspin (about 4 bars) and you’re good to go.
When aiming you want to add about 0.5 to 1 bar of sidespin to the right because the fairway will push the ball a little bit to the left – this depends on the wind situation of course. With this setup (4 bars backspin and 0.5-1 bar sidespin) you can now aim directly for the pin and adjust the wind. At least the birdie is a must-have on this hole in the Dreaded Dunes Tournament.
Dreaded Dunes – Hole #5 (Par 4)
This is another really easy hole to play in the Dreaded Dunes Tournament and the only thing you need to keep in mind is that you shouldn’t mess up your drive.
With your drive, you want to get as far down the fairway as possible and you don’t need any sidepin here, only as much topspin as you can get. The fairway gets thin so make sure to adjust the wind right or you might end in the rough.
Your second hit is also straightforward and I’d play it with a short iron that has a lot of backspin like the Thorn or Hornet or whatever you have. This will give you a perfect way to bounce on the fairway and aim the ball guide for the pin without any further adjustments.
Dreaded Dunes – Hole #6 (Par 5)
This is also a Par 5 where you can get an eagle by playing it save. When you do your drive you want to add as much topspin as possible but don’t use overpower because this will add risk to it that you won’t benefit from much. You will need to play your second shot with a lot of curl so there’s no real benefit from getting some more yards down the fairway.
For your second shot, you do aim next to the bunker and then add all the curl to the right that you have to get on the green. You don’t need to overpower or add any additional spin, this way you will get the ball on the green in your second shot and this should get your the eagle in the Dreaded Dunes Tournament.
Dreaded Dunes – Hole #7 (Par 3)
Keep in mind that you play this hole here downhill so it will be affected more by the wind than it normally would so add like 10% adjustment to your wind adjustment.
So, the tricky thing about this Par 3 hole in the Dreaded Dunes Tournament is that the only spot where you can play (unless you really want to go for that super risky rough bump right in front of the green… what I don’t recommend) will turn the ball to the left or right of the ball guideline.
The best setup that I have found was using 3.5 bars of backspin and 3 bars of sidespin to the right and then aim directly for the pin and do your wind adjustment. This has the highest chance for a hole-in-one and will prevent that you don’t land right next to the pin for the birdie.
Dreaded Dunes – Hole #8 (Par 4)
Another hole that is not that difficult to play. With your drive, you want to get as far down the fairway as possible to give yourself a nice spot for your second shot that can approach the pin directly.
You want to use full topspin with your drive and add about 1-2 bars of sidespin to the right because the fairway slopes down a little bit and you don’t want to end up in the rough – but make sure you don’t get too close to the bunker in case you miss the perfect shot 😉
In your second shot, you can directly approach the pin. I play it with about 2 bars of backspin when bouncing ont he fairway in front of the green and that’s the point where luck comes in because that spot is quite bumpy so the ball will end up one or two rings left of right of the pin – don’t think about it too much and hope for some luck 🙂 If you have a club like the Thorn you can also bump it on the green directly with loads of backspin but this won#t give you a higher chance for the eagle.
Dreaded Dunes – Hole #9 (Par 5)
To me, this is one of the trickiest holes in the Dreaded Dunes Tournament. You should play your drive on the left side to have a good chance to get on the green in your second shot. Because of the sloping of the fairway there you want to add max topspin and 2 bars of sidespin to the left and also use some curl to the right. It’s possible that you might roll over the rough but that’s okay as long as you can make it on the fairway.
In your second hit, you can approach the green but be super focused here because it’s so much downhill that you should over-adjust about 30%! I prefer bouncing it over the bunker but that depends on your clubs and also the wind conditions.
