Great Outdoor Tournament (August 5th, 2019)
The next upcoming tournament will be the Great Outdoors Tournament, featuring a special ball and the regular schedule.
Let’s have a loot at the courses we will have in this upcoming tournament:
So, that’s Greenoch Point and Eagle Peak holes, so you can practice them in Tour 9 (Greenoch Point) and Tour 8 (Eagle Peak). If you have the bankroll I really recommend you to play some matches there to get in touch with the holes before the Qualification Round of the tournament starts on Monday.
Hole 1 – Use Backbone or Goliath and you can either play on the left side in between the trees. Try to reach as far as possible and let it bounce on the rough. You’ll need a ball with sidespin to do that. If you have a strong tailwind and lots of front spin you can also play on the right side, but you need to make sure to roll the ball far enough to pass the trees so you have an open shot for the pin. This should give you below par and a good start for this tournament.
Hole 2 – Use Backbone/Viper in Rookie or Sniper in the higher division. You can go for the save way and bounce the ball in front of the bunker and go for the green. The ground is not that even there so it’s a little random how the ball will land on the green but should give you a shot below par. You can also risk more and drive from the second tee and bounce on the left side of the bunker where the ground is more even to have the best chance for a hole-in-one.
Hole 3 – Big Dawg (Rookie) or Sniper/Cataclysm (Pro+) should be the club of your choice. The safe play would be to go right and bounce on the fairway and try to get as far as possible (further than the bunker if possible) to reach the green in your second shot. If you want to risk more you can also go right as far on the fairway as possible and then overpower your second shot with curl to reach for the green and maybe even go for the pin in the second hit to make a strong statement in the tournament early.
Hole 4 – Use Viper/Sniper in Rookie or Sniper in Pro/Expert if you got it upgraded well, otherwise Quarterback/Rock will be the clubs of your choice in Pro+. You have three options here, bounce in front or left or right of the bunker to reach for the green. In front of the bunker is the safe way to play this hole in this tournament but the rough is not even so don’t expect a chance for a hole-in-one with that line. Bouncing left or right of the bunker is better if you want to directly get a chance for the pin but you need either strong curl and sidespin (left side) or a lot of backspin (right side) to go for the pin.
Hole 5 – I’d play this hole either on the left or the right side. The left side would be my choice in case of no strong crosswinds because I can get more yards done while the right side issafer to play but is harder to reach the green in the second hit. Make sure to use backspin when reaching for the pin and you’ll be fine here. I personally love using the Thorn here, but Goliath is also nice to use in Pro/Expert+.
The middle line should be your choice only if you have very strong tailwind that will clide your curled ball long enough closer to the green.
Hole 6 – The Big Dawg will be the club of choice here for Rookie and Pro divisions, Export/Master should use Cataclysm and Sniper with higher accuracy to get this done under par.
The left side is more comfortably to play but you need a lot of topspin and overpower your shot with 50-100% (depends on the wind), if you fail that you will not have a nice tournament so make sure you’re able to get perfect shots when overpowering.
The right side is the safer option and you can then either play in between the trees in the open spot directly for the green or you curl around the last section of trees.
Hole 7 – Use a good long iron for this hole in this tournament. The left line is the standard play for this hole and that’s not different in this tournament unless you have strong headwind, then you can pick the right line.
Normally you bounce it over the bunker in the left line but it will be very hard to get a hole-in-one as the fairway os not perfectly even.
For the right line you will need a lot of backspin and also headwin to aim directly for the pin and not exceed that point and even leave the green, but no risk no gain, right? π
Hole 8 – This is actually a really straightforward hole and it requires a ball with good sidespin and top spin as well.
You want to bounce the ball over the bunker and add as much topspin and sidespin to the right as possible to reach the green. It’s hard to get a hole-in-one here but if you make it on the green with your drive you will be easily two below par and at a good standing in the tournament. If you have strong headwin you should play it on the right side and make it on the fairway next to the bunker and then go for the green.
Hole 9 – Normally you want to use a ball and club with a lot of topspin and bounce to the second fairway (left line). From there you have a great shot directly for the green where you can bounce on the rough right in front of the green.
The right line is only the right line to play if you have strong headwind and you won’t make it over the rough and bounce on the second fairway. Then you want to reach close to the end of the first fairway and then use curl to go around the trees and get close to the green.
Good luck with this tournament and hope you get that banner π
